What I’m Currently Reading and Listening To
Somehow, despite all of the work I’m constantly doing, I still find time to sit and read, listen to podcasts, and watch television.
Mind, when I say TV I mean Netflix. Our TV is hooked up to the internet and that’s it. And, honestly, that’s how I prefer it.
But I digress…
I always have people asking what I’m reading, watching, and generally consuming. So here’s a look into what’s on my radar recently!
Femme Collectively Podcast – Podcast space for femmes by femmes talking about anything and everything femme related. Corinne and Rahel are wonderful hosts who have some truly spectacular guests
Goal Digger Podcast – Jenna Kutcher’s hit podcast for female entrepreneurs is a current favorite of mine! This one’s honestly hard to listen to in the car. There are so many amazing takeaways from each one that I feel like I need to be ready with a pen and paper in hand to take notes. 10/10 do recommend.
Influencer Podcast – When I started listening to this podcast, I was in absolute love. As of late, I’ve been taking everything with a grain of salt, however. There is a fair bit of unchecked privilege in the content here which can be incredibly frustrating. If you’re willing to push through some “…really?” moments, however, there are definitely nuggets to help every influencer
Can I Pet Your Dog Podcast – The podcast for unapologetic dog lovers! I don’t think I need to say any more here. CIPYD is my favorite podcast (uh… pawdcast?) of all time. Segments like “Dogs We Met this Week” and “Mutt Minute” will have you giggling left and right while you get your dog fix. It’s great for dog-wanters and dog-havers alike.
Dear Martin by Nic Stone, Audiobook – Taking the path of nonviolence can be difficult when the expectation of violence is all around and you find yourself at the heart of unreasonable circumstances. But this is exactly the path Justyce finds himself on when he is handcuffed and held one evening for what can only add up to as “being black.” This audiobook is going to make you feel feelings. It’s going to make you angry, make you want to hug everyone and tell them you love them, make you angry some more, then make you want to take action.
The Hate U Give by Angie Thomas Audiobook – When sixteen year old Starr witnesses the murder of her childhood best friend Khalil at the hands of a police officer, she finds herself dealing with more than she could have imagined. National headlines, media portrayal of young black men, and the reality of being a witness crawl in Starr’s mind as she makes decisions that could become life or death. This particular audiobook won the Odyssey Award this year (like the Grammy’s but for audiobooks and selected by librarians) for good reason. Prepare to share Starr’s horror and grief, then get out there and fight for #JusticeForKhalil.
The Inexplicable Logic of my Life – Sal has become comfortable in his adoptive single gay father household. But everything he knows is about to be challenged and flipped on its head. I’m still working my way through this particular book. I love how it’s reading!
The L Word – Yes, it’s taken me this long to actually watch The L Word – I’m a bad queer. I’m at the beginning of season 3 so no spoilers! Though I’ve had a few big plot points already spoiled. I’m honestly addicted to this show right now. It’s kind of a problem.
I know, I know, only one TV show?! Seriously, I’m not kidding when I say I don’t watch much of anything. Sorry, TV, I’m just not that into you.
