When Spring Just Hasn’t Sprung Yet | Spring Style
We all know how much I love winter. I’ve been terrible at keeping it a secret and it’s definitely something that affects my life decisions in big ways (post on that coming soon).
But when the calendar says it’s March, I’m definitely ready for the weather to turn and to stop having to wear a coat everywhere – even if my winter coat this year is pretty darn cute. It’s the time of year when spring pieces are taking over my wardrobe and the chunky sweaters get pushed to the back. How many times have we Chicagoans gone out saying “It’s not that bad!” while secretly shivering to our cores. That’s kind of how my entire March goes. “In Like a lion” just means that I’m roaring insanely loud because I’m chilly but refusing to admit it.
I’m a total goof, I know.
Enter the fine art of layering. With the right planning, some major time spent keeping up on one’s laundry, and a bit of sheer stubbornness one can only develop by living through more than 20 Midwestern winters, those spring clothes can come out to play, despite temperatures they certainly weren’t meant for.
Spring Style with Layering Jackets
I’m in love with layering jackets, as you can see form these pics! My default is to throw a neutral grey zip up hoodie underneath a heavier outer layer but you can play this style so many different ways. Swap the pea coat for a shorter puffer or layer a leather jacket into the mix; Denim works great for this too! The more layers, the warmer you’ll be. Just pay attention to the full day’s forecast and what your body is telling you.
Spring Style with Sneakers
I’m not sure when I became such a sneaker-head. Ari and I were trying to figure it out and cannot place when my obsession with sneaks started. But it’s here and it’s so real. They’re the perfect accessory for when it’s not warm yet but there’s less snow on the ground. I’m in love with these beautiful adidas Campus sneaks, even if they were kind of a pain to track down. Just be aware of how wet the ground is or will be, as well as the material of your shoes. Make sure to treat suede and leather, etc. to keep your feet dry when those spring showers show up unexpectedly.
Accessorize your Spring Style
The best part of any outfit is the accessories you put with it, right?! Then rethink putting away your winter accessories! Consider pairing your favorite blanket scarf with a floral top, or adding a knit beanie to that gorgeous skirt you’re rocking. Winter accessories make everything feel much cozier without weighing you down in too many pieces not meant to keep the frozen air out.
The possibilities are pretty endless when it comes to rocking pieces for spring when it’s not spring yet. Use this time of change in the weather as a chance to change up how you wear your favorites!
