How to Make a Tee Shirt and Jeans Look Chic

With fall temps officially here in Chicago and the promise of chill in the air, it’s getting to be that time of year where all I want is to be cozy, style be damned. And yet every time I end up in public, I constantly hear “How do you always look cute?” even if I’m only wearing a tee shirt and jeans.

For real guys, half the time I literally did wake up like this.

But some of that is careful planning and shopping: I always intentionally buy pieces that can be easily paired with many other pieces within my closet. My rule when buying anything is that I must be able to think of three occasions when I will wear the piece and five other articles of clothing in my closet which I can pair it with, underthings notwithstanding.

Bearing all of that in mind, I’m sharing my top tips for putting together a simple tee shirt and jeans look that feels extra chic. That way, early on a chilly November weekend morning, when your bff calls you up for brunch, you can roll out of bed and put in minimal effort.

Belts

Statement belts are back and it’s a beautiful thing for us lazy fashionistas. I can throw on my favorite tee and jeans, slap on a statement belt and go. The one I’m wearing in the photos is a Rebecca Minkoff number and it’s become my go-to for so many looks. It’s linked in the widget below on mega sale for half of what I paid. Seriously, go get it. Your hips will thank you.

Scarf

It’s plenty chilly enough that scarves can go with everything. I’m happy to report that the blanket scarf is back for its third cold season and it’s better than ever! With new prints trending, folks playing with texture and a whole bunch of amazing ways to wear and tie these, you cannot go wrong with a good blanket scarf. And I’ve got an awesome discount for you When you go to ILYMIX and use code “stile20” on your first purchase, you can get 20% off!

Jewelry

We all know that a statement necklace can take a Little Black Dress to the next level, right? Well, I’m here to tell you that the same technique can be applied to the Tee Shirt And Jeans. However, rather than a big bold statement, this simple combo lends itself incredibly well to simple jewelry. When I’m rocking a tee and jeans, I love accessorizing but I’ll only do simple pieces. A delicate necklace with a single small charm can go a long way with your basic white v-neck. Like wrist bling? Throw on your favorite watch and leave it at that. If it’s a ring kind of day, maybe pick only one or two rings instead of tons and tons. I’ve linked below some of my favorite simple pieces to pair with your favorite tee and jeans combo.

Top Layer

Obviously, half the joy of a tee and jeans is that that’s it for the outfit. Nothing else to worry about, no other pieces, just nice and simple. But sometimes fall mornings dawn a little extra crisp; or it’s one of those mega-hot days where buildings snap back to being over air-conditioned; or maybe the lake is extra windy that particular day. Whatever the case may be, having something to throw over the top can take your tee and jeans look to a magnificent level. Some of my favorites are oversized slouchy cardigans, leather jackets and statement blazers. I’ve recently picked up a hot pink blazer that I can’t WAIT to share with you guys.

Shoes

Okay, I know what you’re thinking. “If I’m wearing a tee and jeans, no way am I wearing anything ‘fancy’” but hear me out. Instead of throwing on flip flops or those ratty old sneakers that should probably be donated to something like Nike’s Reuse-A-Shoe program, try rocking even just a pair of statement flats that you’ve already broken in, or those heels you never wear but are actually shockingly comfortable. This is the perfect time to wear!

Finding the right mix of accessories is key in keeping your tee and jeans extra chic as the weather cools and you want to stay cozier and cozier. Look at investing in basics and accessories that you know can add a simple little bit of chic to any look and you’ll be bound to impress. And stay cozy.
