Jackets with Military Inspiration
In case you missed the memo, military-inspired pieces are cropping up EVERYWHERE! Just look at Burberry’s latest runway to see what I mean. And that’s not the only place it’s rocking. I love the structure and lines these pieces create and I’m enamored with the style as a whole.
Jackets are an accessory that I don’t quite… get. Like, they’re all so cute but I can never style them! It’s either too hot for a jacket or it’s too cold and I need my proper winter coat. Even in fall, I carry a sweater but never wear it. Early spring? hah! Chicago’s way too cold for such things. There is just no good time for jackets in this city. But, naturally, I try to rock them anyway. It helps when I’m beyond thrilled to wear them, they’re handmade by friends, and look incredibly unique.

Ana of Fitting Mood makes some amazing clothing. From great pom pom sneakers to statement tops and beyond, her pieces are carefully crafted with her and her mother, handmade in her home of Venezuela, and sent right to you. You support a small business, get a super awesome unique item, and have a high quality piece that will brighten up your wardrobe.
I fell in love with jacket when I saw Anna wearing it at Latino Fashion Week back in the fall. She styled it so perfectly and I just loved it! So when I complimented her and her response was “Do you want one?” I naturally said YES!
Because it’s handmade, it isn’t something you can get as quick as the fast fashion you’re used to. And every single piece is unique based on what fabric and trims are available. But that’s what adds to the charm and power of these pieces. Even though my jacket is made by the same person who made hers, it’s completely different and uniquely mine. Talk about one-of-a-kind!
I’ve rocked this piece so many different places. To work, at parties, out for dinner for a friend’s birthday… you name it! It can be styled up or down to make some magnificently unique looks. Pair with heels and a simple dress and you’re ready to step out. Add slacks and it’s good for the office. Going casual? Jeans work amazingly with it! Essentially, it’s an incredibly diverse piece that I’m going to treasure for a while.
