Fashionably Femme | Dannie
Welcome to Fashionably Femme. Fashionably Femme is a blog series featuring femmes from all nooks of the LGBT*QIA community. These rocking folks are girl bosses, moms, entrepreneurs, and all sorts of amazing human beings. I decided it was high time I actually do one of these for myself. And with a huge announcement at the end of this post, the timing was just perfect.
My femininity is easily my favorite part about myself. I love showcasing my legs, my hair, and everything else. Taking feminine pieces and rocking them or making masculine pieces look more feminine with dainty accessories are my favorite parts of being a femme.
I get a ton of my inspiration from Iris Apfel, actually. Despite the fact that our style is so incredibly different, her ability to make unique looks work is amazing. I channel that attitude, the idea that anything can work if you commit to it, and express it through the looks I create, even if I use 99% less accessories than her.
My style has undergone several major recreations across my lifetime. Believe it or not, I had the goth phase in high school that many folks only heard about. That morphed into a dark-yet-comfortable vibe in college. Because, let’s be honest, when you’re working, taking a full load of classes, and doing at least one production at a time, comfort is key. I definitely went out in my pajamas more than once and I’m not sorry about it. After graduation, I opted for an entirely business casual and hyper-casual wardrobe. There were khaki slacks involved. It was pretty horrendous.
Finally, being tired of not looking what I deemed my best, I decided I wanted to follow trends, dress up, and rock the femme style I’ve come to be known for. Which is actually where the blog came from! At the beginning, the entire purpose of the blog was to highlight my style journey. Clearly, it’s grown since then, and I now have a style I am incredibly proud of.
One of my absolute favorite pieces in my closet is this mint green all lace dress from BCBGMaxariza. It’s tea length, long sleeved, and cut beautifully. All lace overlay with a neutral-toned liner underneath so the illusion of nothing but lace comes across from even far away. I love to pair that with a statement flat and a great bag for a night out, or with some loafers for work. Anywhere I can justify wearing this piece, I do.
My femininity is a huge part of my identity. As is my queerness. The old term “lipstick lesbian” describes me 100% perfectly. From the number of shades of lipstick I own to the literal book case filled with shoes, I have grown into a style that I adore and am proud of.
And now, I’m hoping to share that style with all of you. Stile.Foto.Cibo is officially launching a t-shirt line, Tees by Stile.Foto.Cibo! There are four designs to choose from, a little something for everybody! “Fashionably Femme” as featured here for the femme who wants to share it with the world. “Globally Inspired” for my fellow travelers who rock the fact that they find their inspiration from around the globe. And a few more designs that you’ll just have to go check out. I’m so thrilled to finally share this with everyone!
