Puppy Love | I Love You Sixteen
My puppy is one of the most important parts of my life. Next to my wife and my other puppy, that is. Basically, my life revolves on those I share a home with and I wouldn’t have it any other way.
When we first adopted Zoe, I had no idea that my life would, quite literally, go to the dogs. I just wanted a fuzzy companion to cuddle and love, and I wanted to give a dog a second chance at life by rescuing. Little did we know that would turn into fundraising, volunteering, and a second dog! No outfit is complete now without dog hair and as I type, I’m noticing at least 5 different dog hairs on my keyboard alone. My dogs have taken over my life and I love every second of it.
But it all really goes back to Zoe. It’s all her fault!
And they call it puppy love
Like any multi-dog person, I really SHOULDN’T play favorites but I inevitably have. She’s my favorite girl. My little snuggle bug, my baby girl. When I come home, I always end up saying hello to her first, coming to her aide in wrestling matches, and giving her table scraps. She has gone form a skinny little bag of bones to the most loyal companion I could ever ask for. We put a lot of love and work into her and it’s paying off every single day.
I needed to do something to keep her with me at all times.
When we’re cuddling Zoe, we always count her toes. It doesn’t make any sense and it’s incredibly silly but it’s our thing. The running joke is that Zoe can only count to 16 because she only has 16 toes. So when she’s “talking” and trying to say that something is big or a lot, she says it’s 16 something. So when we talk about puppy love, she says “I love you sixteen!” because that’s the biggest she can go.
Her toes are some of her most unique characteristics, too. Because she’s so muttly, her toe pads are all sorts of spotted. I knew my something needed to involve her toes. Her spotty little baby toes. And, thus, a tattoo of her toes was created. We took some photos of her most spotted foot and I went to Chi-Town Tattoo to get those spots on my arm forever. I couldn’t be happier with the result! It’s a sweet little way to have Zoe with me every single day.
