To Chichen Itza!

Our second morning in Mexico dawned similarly to the first one, woke up early (this time on purpose), drank some coffee, and grabbed breakfast. We were heading on an adventure today! An extra pastry in hand for good measure, we waited at the front of our resort for a bus to come pick us up for a day trip to Chichen Itza, one of the seven wonders of the world and a site that has been on my travel bucket list for a very long time.

The bus ride was long but we were almost instantly rewarded upon arriving. Rather than narrate our walk around the site, I’m just going to give you these photos. Enjoy the scroll!

We found a little friend walking around!

And then we found a much bigger friend.

We finished our tour of the site, our guide being an amazing storyteller the whole, and made our way back out of the heat to lunch, a local restaurant serving local food. I’m sad to say I didn’t get any pictures but I will say this: I had so many tacos. And they were so amazing that no other tacos will be as good ever again.

Cenote Ik Kil

Back into the bus once again, this time to a nearby cenote, or sinkhole, to enjoy the scenery and go for what felt like the most refreshing swim I had ever taken. Once again, simply enjoy these photos.

I didn’t actually look at how high it was until it was entirely too late to change my mind- I was already running!

This was easily the most beautiful place I have ever swam in my life. And that includes Lake Windermere

Bonus throwback to 2013, Lake Windermere

Back onto the bus one last time, we were handed beers and driven back to our resort, refreshed and ready to go snuggle into bed.

That’s the last of my Mexico travel series. But rumor has it that if you were to click this link, you’d get transported one year into the future when we went back to Mexico for our honeymoon! I’m not saying you’re about to be a time traveler but clicking that link is basically like hopping into a TARDIS.
