Riviera Maya Day Two: The Ocean
We woke up the next morning surprisingly early. My usual idea of vacation is sleep until I can’t sleep anymore, drink some coffee, and then set about doing things. And yet when 7:30 rolled around, I was awake and ready to go. So, of course, I rolled over and whispered “Are you awake?” She was then. Oops.
We made coffee and went to sip on the balcony, and watched the rest of the resort wake up around us. People sleepily making their way to breakfast, the first swimmers of the day, and everybody else simply enjoying the fact they were waking up in paradise.
Finally fueled to actually face other people, we went down to breakfast, already in swimsuits ready to make a break for the beach.
Full disclosure, I have never actually been in the ocean. I’ve been to it, I’ve eaten on the water, but I have never had the opportunity to actually go in the water. So imagine my excitement when I realised I was headed straight for it! My lady was wonderful enough to document the experience.
The camera went away and we spent some time just playing in the waves. It was so much fun! Honestly, I was surprised at how warm the water was. Maybe it’s just because I’m used to Lake Michigan which is freezing despite what time of year it is. But this was really quite pleasant.
After some time swimming, we made our way back to shore, pulled up some beach chairs, drinks, and books and spent the rest of the early part of our day being lazy and enjoying the warmth, sun, and relaxation.
After some lunch, we made our way back to our rooms to get ready for the main event, the wedding! Set right on the water in the sand with the beautiful colors of the sunset as a backdrop, vows were said, everyone cried a little, and we toasted them with champagne. Congrats, Kim and Mat!
The whole thing was just beautiful. We all sat down to dinner together and had a grand old family time. Next time we’ll all be together will be for my wedding! (PS, guys, I found my dress! No photos til wedding day, though. Sarah reads this blog!)
